ALPG visits Castlecove Golf Club

The ALPG (Australian Ladies Professional Golf) tour took a detour on December 1 and spent a glorious afternoon at Castlecove to hone their short game skills before heading out of Sydney.

The girls were able to relax and all enjoyed the "friendly" match so they could play with their tour mates without the pressure of a tour event. Many of the participants are International tour players and were very impressed by our beautiful course, especially our famous greens.

We would like to extend our best wishes to their upcoming tour events and look forward to seeing them back next year!

Castlecove Golf Club is celebrating its 80th Anniversary!

On April 12th, Castlecove Golf club commemorated its 80th anniversary with over 100 people in attendance.

Our host, NSB's 99.3 fms Geoff Stanwell read the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald  from the day to take us back to the time. He was then joined by Willoughby Mayor Pat Reilly who reminisced with his personal memories of the club,  and the many stories already told to him from  the many members and ex-members at the event.

Angela Smith, our Chairperson, helped him plant a commemorative Waratah tree, then Mayor Reilly unveiled a plaque to ensure the day was remembered into the future.
You can see the Waratah tree as you walk up the stairs to the pro- shop on the right hand side.

After the official bits were complete, Mayor Reilly proceeded to the first tee to  re enact the opening in 1932 by Edgar Deans, who later became Mayor of Willoughby Council.

The Mayor bravely used an antique hickory driver, an antique ball and teed off a mound of sand prepared by his caddie, nine year old Hamish Grant.

Then the fun began with 14 octogenarian members of the club who competed in a long drive competition with the antique golf stick.
Congratulations to Barbara Douglas and John Potts the women’s and men’s victors.

The whole event was videoed by the Sydney Video Club and a video will be available shortly.

Many thanks to many people who helped the day become a success.

There will be more activities later in the year to further celebrate the anniversary, but make sure you save  Saturday night 22nd September for the 80th anniversary Gala Ball and Sunday 23rd September for the Heritage Golf Day
