2019 – The Year in Review

Hello everyone – a Merry Christmas to you all from the Men’s Committee. It’s been quite a year hasn’t it? We’ve had tornadoes, smoke, heat and in between some magnificent golf days. My compliments to the green keepers and our professional and bar staff for keeping the whole show going. We are in your debt.

There were some excellent performances on the course  this year from our members – Denis Gibson won the Club Championship again, along with the President’s Trophy and represented our Masters Pennants Team in every match playing Number One. Gareth Parker achieved the rare double of winning the Singles Knockout and then combined with his mate Nick Rock to the win the 2-Ball Knockout.

There were many other fine achievements from a wide range of players, but I was particularly impressed by the great improvement in our overall playing ability. At the start of the year we perhaps had 5 or 6 players with handicaps of 12 or better – that has more than doubled over the past 12 months giving us much greater depth when it comes to inter-club events. On that note, in the space of one week in November we won both The Boncove Shield and (with the ladies) the Willoughby Shield. Particular mention to 4 guys who represented us in both events – Greg Daniels, Gareth Parker ( a big year for Gareth! ), Ron Whyte and Bryce Robson. Thanks and congratulations to all of you. Earlier in the year our Masters Pennants, Warren Shield and Gibson Shield teams all had very productive seasons – each of the 3 squads just missing out on winning their Divisional Pennant. We’re not a huge club but we can always field a competitive team. Thanks so much to all of you who participated….and to our organisers John Berry, Greg Dare, Ron Whyte, Jack Snowsill and all the others who contributed.

Coming up we have our 2 Christmas events – “Fowl” Day on Tuesday 10th December and then the Christmas / Presentation Day on Saturday 14th December. I hope you can all come along and join the festivities. Finally, thanks to all of the Men’s Committee – who performed so well throughout the year…and kept me out of trouble – so far!!

Have a great Christmas season and come back even better next year.
